2. Can I bring my bull to your facility?
Yes. We operate EU-approved, biosecure stud facilities in Cumbria and Grantham, where bulls are housed, cared for, and collected in a controlled environment by our expert team.
3. Do you offer on-farm semen collection?
Absolutely. Our mobile semen collection team can visit your farm, bringing professional equipment to collect, assess, and freeze semen on-site.
4. What breeds do you work with?
We work with all major beef and dairy breeds, including British Blue, Limousin, Aberdeen Angus, Charolais, Holstein, Hereford, and many more—both
pedigree and commercial.
5. Is my bull eligible for EU semen collection and export?
To qualify, bulls must pass extensive health testing (e.g., BVD, IBR, TB, Johne’s, Lepto) and adhere to our quarantine protocols. We’ll guide you through the full testing and approval process.
6. What’s the process for semen freezing and processing?
After collection, semen is evaluated for motility, concentration, and morphology, then extended, packaged in 0.25ml or 0.5ml straws, frozen, labelled, and stored under liquid nitrogen at –196°C.
7. Can you store semen for me?
Yes. We offer short-term and long-term semen storage, with full inventory management, 24/7 temperature monitoring, and insurance-compliant security at both of our licensed facilities.
8. How is semen shipped?
We use liquid nitrogen shipping tanks and partner with certified couriers for both UK-wide and international distribution. We also handle all DEFRA paperwork and health certification.
9. Do you help with semen sales and marketing?
Yes. We promote bulls through iBreeder, where breeders can view EBVs, photos, and order semen directly online. We also support you with marketing content, bull profiles, and social reach.
10. What is iBreeder?
iBreeder is an online platform that showcases bulls from Scawfell Genetics and other providers, allowing breeders to compare, purchase, and arrange delivery of semen conveniently and securely.
11. How much semen can I expect per collection?
This depends on the age, breed, fertility, and health of the bull. Our team will work with you to determine optimal collection schedules and provide semen quality reports after each session.
12. What are your biosecurity standards?
Our stud is fully biosecure, with strict access controls, sanitation protocols, and health monitoring. Bulls are kept in isolation as needed and regularly tested in line with EU and DEFRA regulations.
13. Do you help with export and international clients?
Yes. We handle export documentation, health testing, and compliance for semen destined for Europe, North America, and beyond. Our team has extensive experience in international trade.
